Good news for anyone missing their holiday apartments in Spain – the country’s transport minister has said that it is hoping to start welcoming foreign visitors to its shores by late June.
Spain has just imposed a 14-day quarantine period on all overseas travellers, necessary to avoid a second wave of coronavirus, Sky News reports, with this quarantine phased out in parallel with permissible movements within the country, since regions are easing restrictions at different rates.
It is also now easing its strict lockdown, which was introduced in the middle of March. People weren’t allowed out for exercise but now most small shops have opened their doors once again, as well as some churches.
Speaking to broadcaster TVE, Jose Luis Abalos said: “From late June, we’ll start the tourism activity, I hope. We must make Spain an attractive country from the health point of view. As soon as we Spaniards can travel to other provinces, foreigners will be able to come to Spain.
“It is consistent with the phase-out plan. We can’t allow foreigners to travel while the Spanish population is confined.”
So, with travel to Spain on the horizon once again, now’s the perfect time to think about what you’d like to see and do most when you do finally make it to your holiday home once more.
You’re probably going to want to get some sun, sea and sand after all this and if you’re keen to get off the beaten track a little, you could certainly do a lot worse than making your way to the Cabo de Gata Nature Reserve.
Here, you’ll find stunning white, sandy beaches but the best, perhaps, is El Playazo, near the little village of Rodalquilar… and it’s absolutely perfect for swimming, so don’t forget your swimming costumes.
If surfing is more your style, what about heading off to Playa Los Lances in Tarifa, on the southernmost coast of mainland Spain. It’s a great place to go even if you’re not a surfer, but for those that are, they’ll find the conditions rather on the windy side. Keep your eyes peeled for whales, orcas and dolphins, as well!
For families, you’ll find what you’re looking for in Asturias, which has a beautifully clean beach that’s easy to access, a car park, shallow water and lots of rock pools and caves so the kids can run around to their heart’s content, exploring here, there and everywhere.
There are some cafes nearby as well, so you don’t have to worry about packing a picnic – it’s all there, waiting for you.
