The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has released a 50-page plan for restarting the economy and easing the lockdown, which included advice on when weddings will be able to return.
The announcement from Downing Street may have left people with many questions, but for those with wedding concerns, Hitched has a list of common coronavirus wedding FAQs. At the moment, small weddings may take place from 1 June under the new guidelines.
There had been some restriction put into place for weddings prior to the introduction of social distancing measure. The Church of England had limited weddings to just five people in attendance – the couple, the vicar, and two witnesses.
Registrars were able to conduct ceremonies with a maximum of ten guests present – the engaged couple and up to eight guests. These restrictions may be in place again from 1 June.
When Will Weddings Be Possible Again?
According to the government FAQs: “There’s no change at this time. We understand the frustration couples planning a wedding must be feeling, so we have set out our intention to enable small wedding ceremonies from 1 June. As with all coronavirus restrictions on places of worship, venues and social distancing, we will look to ease them as soon as it is safe to do so.”
