Design and technology teacher Sara McGoldrick, for example, turned her garden shed into an at-home factory to make personal protective equipment for NHS workers and help tackle shortage issues. She’s aiming to produce 1,000 masks a day!
And then there’s Ashley Bates, a teacher who has been live-streaming maths and English lessons from his cabin – all while dressed like a pirate. He’s dubbed it The Shed School and has around 100 pupils learning with him every day.
As for athletes, it seems the Olympic dream hasn’t died quite yet, either, with many using their sheds, hallways, terraces and back gardens to help them train and stay at the top of their game.
GB Olympic silver medallist rower Polly Swann has been using a wattbike in her dad’s shed to help her keep her goals in sight.
A recent study found that businesses run from garden sheds contribute £17 billion to the economy – so maybe now’s the perfect time to come up with a business plan of your own! We’d love to hear what ideas you have for your own cottage industry, so let us know what you’ve got in mind.
