There are many costs associated with running a business, but unlike a lot of the other services you’ll have to pay for, you can take some simple steps to reduce the amount you’re spending on your energy use.

Flux Magazine recently offered some advice on the easiest steps to take if you want to cut how much your business is spending on energy bills each month.

The first tip is to get a professional in to inspect your premises and offer their advice. Engaging with business energy consultants can help you find the easiest places where you can cut back and they will also be able to help you explore the various providers to find the one providing the most cost-effective energy.

Installing timers at your premises to control all manner of things is another good idea. Light timers are the obvious place to begin, but you might find they can also be applied to general electrical equipment, fans or outdoor sprinklers if you have outdoor space.

Thermostats are another place to focus your attention. If you don’t have one in your office, it’s a sensible investment. Using a thermostat will mean you’re able to regulate the temperature of your workplace more efficiently than having to manually turn the heating on and off.

Lighting is something else you should look at. Make sure you’re using LED lighting where possible, as this uses much less energy than its traditional counterparts.

Of course, reducing your energy use does more than just save you money, it also cuts your business’ carbon emissions. In fact, the latest figures released by the UK’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy revealed that the country’s greenhouse gas emissions fell for the seventh consecutive year in 2019.

They fell 3.6 per cent year on year, and are now nearly 28 per cent lower than in 2010, the Guardian reported.
