The seventh Driver of the Year competition is set to get underway in a few months’ time, taking place on June 13th, with entrants competing to be named the best van driver in the UK.
Contestants will have to complete numerous tasks on the 13th, judged on their risk perception, driving style, fuel economy, manoeuvring, vehicle defect checking and legislative knowledge.
At the end of the day, a presentation will be made to celebrate all the winners, as well as the Van Excellence Driver of the Year and the overall Van Driver of the Year. Prizes include a £1,000 holiday voucher – so if you’ve been feeling as though you need a bit of a break and know you have the skills to take you to the top, you might want to send your entry form in.
Director at FTA Kevin Green said: “The growth of vans for varied trade use such as plumbing or floristry, together with the rise of internet shopping, has resulted in van drivers playing an increasing role in the UK economy.
“FTA looks forward to recognising and rewarding these outstanding individuals who can demonstrate excellent manoeuvring, observation and concentration skills, as well as their ability to work safely and efficiently in line with best practice.”
The competition opens on March 16th, so put the date in the diary in case you forget. You’ll be rated on safe driving style, economical driving, pre-use defect checking, risk assessments and more. Now’s the time to start honing your skills!
