All sorts of health and beauty trends pop up here and there, and it can be hard to work out which ones are beneficial to follow and which ones are just silly fads that won’t revolutionise your skincare regime.

But you might find that there is some merit in the skincare fridge craze that’s just started doing the rounds, with lots of pictures of very cute little fridges now appearing on social media sites like Instagram where you can store all your favourite products to help extend their shelflife.

Check out The Cosmetics Fridge on Instagram and you’ll see what we mean. As the brand explains, investment in skincare and beauty products is exactly that – a big investment… and it can be very tricky indeed to keep your products effective and protected.

Without this, you run the risk of your products going off before you have a chance to finish them – and, as you all know, skincare products can be quite costly and no one likes to waste anything, do they?

Of course, some products can be left at room temperature and they’ll be just fine but others should perhaps be refrigerated in order to extend their lives. This is perhaps especially true of handmade beauty products and natural face products, if you want to ensure that they stand the test of time.

Always read the label or the packaging to see if there’s any advice on your products as to how best to keep them. But a good rule of thumb is to store them away from direct sunlight and somewhere dry and cool. If you do use preservative-free natural products, storing them in the fridge can certainly help protect against bacteria and extend their shelf life.

Because they’re free from preservatives, organic and natural products are more likely to decompose quicker than others on the market – and bacteria that subsequently forms can potentially lead to breakouts.

But there’s another benefit to keeping products in the fridge and that’s the fact that you can enjoy a cooling effect as a result. Keeping the likes of your moisturiser, serum and toners in the fridge can help to cool your skin when applied, which will help to constrict your blood vessels, calm any inflammation you might have, tighten your pores and reduce the bags under your eyes,

Of course, it’s not strictly necessary to store your products in the fridge so don’t worry if you don’t do this (unless it’s otherwise stated on the packaging), but it can really give your skin a bit of a treat so perhaps worth a try.

We’d love to hear from you if you have decided to try storing your products in the fridge and if you think it’s made a difference to the quality of your skin so get in touch with us today to tell us all about it.
