Micro trips, for example, are expected to be big news in 2019, with bitesize travel predicted to become very popular over the next 12 months. It’s all about more bespoke travel experiences and more curated itineraries, it would seem, with the micro trip set to be more tailored and varied so that shorter trips become more personally rewarding.
Another interesting trend for trips away is the conscious holiday, reflecting surging interest worldwide in issues like working conditions, equality and human rights.
Some 45 per cent of those surveyed said that social issues in travel destinations are of real importance when picking somewhere to go and 52 per cent said they wouldn’t go somewhere if they thought it would have a negative impact on the locals.
Or what about an educational holiday? It was also found that 2019 will see more eager jetsetters looking for more purpose from their trip, whether that’s volunteering, learning something new, doing a cultural exchange or taking on an international work placement.
Booking.com’s chief marketing officer, Pepijn Rijvers, said: “2019 is set to be an exciting year for travel. With technological advancements, an ever more connected world and a continuously growing consumer appetite for the best travel experiences, we’re poised for ground-breaking developments, taking travel to unexplored heights.”
