The Dead Sea
Sail your way to Israel, where you’ll find the Dead Sea, which can be reached from the port of Ashdod. Also known as the Sea of Salt, the Dead Sea is actually more of a lake than a sea, with its shores actually the lowest point on the surface of the earth.
Because of the salt content of the water, no fish can survive – and it’s also famed for its healing properties, so if you’ve been feeling like you need some rejuvenation, this is the travel hotspot for you.
There are lots of public beaches to be found along the shores, including the Ein Gedi Beach and the Ein Bokek resort – although be aware that some beaches will charge an entrance fee.
You can also book yourself on an excursion that includes a cable car ride to the ancient hilltop fortress of King Herod – Masada. It’s quite a long day trip so bear this in mind if you have young children with you… bring something to keep them entertained!
Krka National Park
If Croatia is at the top of your must-visit list for your next luxury cruise around the Mediterranean, make sure that you give yourself enough time to head off to Krka National Park, home to some seriously impressive waterfalls.
Check out Roski Slap and Skradinski Buk, both of which are relatively easy to access, with the former made up of 12 – yes, 12! – waterfalls… the perfect day out for all the family.
The Blue Grotto in Capri
If Italy is a top pick for your next Mediterranean cruise, what about paying the Blue Grotto a visit? This will always be a popular tourist draw because of the incredibly vibrant blue colour inside the cavern itself, caused by sunlight shining back up through the cave’s water from a cavity underwater.
You access the Grotto on a small boat, which can only enter the cavern when the tide is low enough – a brilliant adventure that everyone will enjoy.
The Gorges du Verdon river canyon
This river canyon, found in France, is one of the best known in Europe because of its beautiful turquoise water. You can kayak and dive here, or if you’d rather not get your hair wet you can go for some stunning walks around the limestone natural reserve. What on earth could be better?
The Blue Lagoon
If you find yourself anywhere near Malta as you wend your way around the Med on Legenda, make sure you head off to Comino Island, where you’ll find the stunning azure waters of the Blue Lagoon, a shallow bay that’s perennially popular with tourists – and perfect for a spot of scuba diving or snorkelling.
Because it’s so popular, you are likely to find other people there, so don’t be disappointed if you don’t have it to yourself. Malta itself is fast becoming a hot travel spot, however, so you may want to spend some time exploring other parts of the region to find out just what all the fuss is about.
