A luxury cruise trip around the Mediterranean on board Legenda Yacht gives you all the freedom you could possibly want from a holiday… you can go where you want, when you want to – and you’re sure to discover all sorts of interesting cultures and traditions as you sail your way around the Med.
With so many different countries right on your floating doorstep, you’ll find yourself seriously spoiled for choice when it comes to choosing which events to see and which attractions to visit.
So, to help you work out your itineraries for your luxury cruise this year, here are just some of our favourite events going on around the Mediterranean. Which will you add to your must-see list?
Fete de la Saint-Louis
Make your way to the port of Sete in Languedoc, France, for something you’re unlikely to have seen before – water jousting! This has been an annual event since 1666, with tournaments held along its canals throughout the summer – although you’ll want to find yourself there in August, which is when it really gets going.
Street shows, parades, entertainment and much, much more takes place as well, so if you’re keen to really immerse yourself in activities steeped in tradition while having a great time and living like a local for a few hours, Saint Louis Day could be the perfect choice for you and your party.
Athens & Epidaurus Festival
This is one of the oldest performing arts festivals in Europe, having been running since 1955, and it’s also one of the most important cultural festival events on the Greek calendar. Each year sees theatre and dance acts take to the stage, as well as internationally acclaimed musicians, bringing huge audiences from all over the world to Athens.
The festival runs between June and August, so if you were planning a summer cruise around the Med, you might like to include this on your itinerary.
Malta International Arts Festival
For a bit of everything cultural, make your way to Malta this year for its International Arts Festival, where a host of events is put on, with everything from visual installations to dance performances taking centre stage.
It takes place between June 19th and July 4th, with last year’s event including a sunset tour performance on a Turkish sailing vessel across the Grand Harbour, a holographic music theatre performance and a music dance performance featuring ancient Celtic war horns and other primordia itual instruments.
Dubrovnik Summer Festival
The 71st Dubrovnik Summer Festival is taking place between July 10th and August 25th this year, although no events have as yet been announced… but you can bet that it’s going to be an amazing fun-filled few weeks.
A vast array of different exhibitions, performances and concerts are put on during the festival, with the stunning city providing the perfect backdrop for all the artistic events. This really is one not to be missed – and Dubrovnik is one of the most exciting cities to visit in the Mediterranean, so make sure you give yourself enough time to explore properly.
Cannes Film Festival
No doubt you’ve heard of the Cannes Film Festival before, on this year between May 12th and 23rd – and it would be the perfect way to really make your luxury yacht cruise onboard Legenda even more special, with the chance to hobnob with some serious stars and see some new and exciting films before anyone else.
American director Spike Lee has just been announced as this year’s President of the Jury and will, along with members of his Jury (due to be announced in April), award the Palme d’or at the end of this, the 73rd edition of the festival.
Last year’s president was Alejandro G Inarritu, who awarded the Palme d’or to Parasite from Korean director Bong Joon-ho, which has also just won the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film… perhaps put that on in the cinema room on Legenda to really get yourself in the mood for this year’s film festival.
