Has Formula E Helped Electric Vehicles?

Formula E is the electric vehicle equivalent of Formula 1 and it seems that it’s having a positive impact on the electric vehicle sector as a whole.

A poll conducted recently by The Engineer found that 46 per cent of respondents believe Formula E has encouraged manufacturers to improve electric vehicle technology.

What’s more, nearly one-fifth of respondents believe that it’s changed the image of electric vehicles. However, 16 per cent of those questioned said that they didn’t feel as though the motorsport had made any difference, while a further 16 per cent said that they didn’t think it could compete with Formula 1.

London will be hosting a Formula E race next year, with a 2.4km track featuring 23 corners due to see the cars racing along the waterfront at the docks and through part of the ExCel Centre.

Formula E Founder Alejandro Agag told the news provider that the event will be about more than just racing fast cars.

“Formula E coming back to the UK extends beyond pure racing excitement, it’s also a strong message for London to tackle inner-city air pollution by promoting clean technologies and electric sustainable mobility,” he asserted.

The Telegraph recently suggested that Formula E, now in its fifth season, has evolved considerably since it started in 2014. The newspaper noted that the cars are now able to last a full race, where in the early days drivers would have to switch vehicles partway through.

However, one thing that’s likely to help propel Formula E to new heights is the fact that the BBC has the rights to show every race in the 2018/19 season. This means more people will be able to watch the high-octane motorsport and see its futuristic looking cars as they travel around a circuit.
