Focusing on home improvements – such as bi folding aluminium doors – could be the perfect way to add value to your house this year if that’s your main aim over the next few months, with new research revealing that upgrades could increase values by £40,000, from an average of £210,000 to £250,000.
The Post Office Money study found that homes with improvements like garden landscaping, walk-in wardrobes and new kitchens were on the market for over ten per cent higher than the average asking price, Homes and Property reports.
Given that the cost of moving is now so high and house prices have dipped around the UK, it’s perhaps no surprise that people are now choosing to do their homes up instead of looking to buy their dream house elsewhere.
Of those surveyed, 28 per cent said they renovated because it represented a good investment and would push the value of their house up. And 59 per cent said they chose to upgrade simply because they wanted to improve the appearance of their property.
“Making the right changes to your home can increase its market value significantly; if improving your home’s asking price is your priority, it’s important to keep in mind the cost of the improvement and the value it could add,” Post Office Money’s Chrysanthy Pispinis was quoted by the news source as saying.
